Paschal Mahoney – The New Ireland Assurance Company Building: The challenges of retaining the legibility, historic fabric, while upgrading to modern standards?
Paschal’s presentation describes the various phases of construction of the former New Ireland Assurance Company building; 1930, 1964 and 1971 and how the architects have retained the legibility of these distinct phases in the current phase. Describing the challenges of the new phase he shows how they have reinstated the main double height entrance lobby which had been infilled over the decades. He also talks about the challenges of retaining the building fabric and adapting it to meet current building standards.
