The project involved the fit-out of approximately 600sq.m of the top floor of an existing building to provide teaching, research and office facilities for TCD’s Post Graduate Computer Science MSc. This project demonstrates our ability to realise highly creative solutions within limited space confines and to deliver a finished design which is of a high architectural quality. A key design decision was to expose the existing concrete soffit and to remove the solid partition walls to improve the spatial condition. The existing floor to ceiling height was very restricted and the original space was claustrophobic and poorly lit. The design solution maximised the available headroom and the use of glazed partitions and an open plan layout has transformed the space into a light filled environment which feels spacious and generous. The space is animated through the careful use of colour and texture. We used robust, well-crafted materials and detailing throughout to deliver a building that is cost effective in maintenance and operation.
