Tullamore, Co. Offaly
The public entrance is positioned under a deep canopy formed by the overlapping volumes reminiscent of the great black wooden beams of canal lock gates. The light filled Foyer features a broad staircase running along the glazed east façade , replicated on the outside by a parallel staircase that connects the plaza area to a roof top sculpture garden. The internal and external staircases are separated by a skin of alternating clear and mirrored glass which are opposite internally and externally (through the use of one-way glass) creating a sense of illusion and challenging our sense of reality as we enter the world of theatre and performance, the mirror of life. The glass fins also reflect cascades of water spilling over the canal lock gates.
